Ceļš uz mājām Es esmu Gatis Meinis, mākslas fotogrāfs no Rīgas. Manu fotogrāfiju raksturo dziļa, teju nostalģiska saikne ar Latvijas ainavu — saikne, ko veidojis attālums.
Divpadsmit gadus pavadīju, dzīvojot Apvienotajā Karalistē. Aizbraukšana uz tik ilgu laiku izmainīja manu skatījumu uz pasauli. Kad beidzot atgriezos Latvijā, es vairs neredzēju vienkārši “ainavu”; es redzēju mājas. Manī radās vajadzība iemūžināt purva mieru, Baltijas jūras dramatismu un Rīgas noskaņu — saglabāt mirkļus, pēc kuriem tik ilgi biju ilgojies.
Saknes un meistarība Mana apsēstība ar attēlu sākās jau bērnībā. Mans vectēvs bija fotogrāfs, un es uzaugu, vērojot, kā viņa sarkanās gaismas istabā notiek burvība. Viņš man iemācīja fotofilmiņas pamatus un pacietību, kas nepieciešama, lai radītu, nevis vienkārši uzņemtu fotogrāfiju.
Šis pamats palika ar mani arī tad, kad Apvienotajā Karalistē iegādājos savu pirmo kameru. Digitālajā laikmetā esmu pašmācības ceļā apguvis visu — mācoties caur izmēģinājumiem, kļūdām un neatlaidīgu vēlmi pilnveidot savu prasmi.
Process Es ticu, ka labākie kadri ir nopelnīti. Bieži vien mani var sastapt uz motocikla, steidzoties pretī laikam, lai noķertu tuvojošos vētru, vai dodoties nakts melnumā, lai atrastu miglu.
Rediģēšanas procesā mani vada klasiskās un smagās metālmūzikas intensitāte. Šī enerģija atspoguļojas manā darbā — es nemeklēju “skaistus” attēlus; es meklēju drāmu, atmosfēru un spēcīgu emocionālu iespaidu.
The Journey Home I am Gatis Meinis, a fine art photographer based in Riga. My photography is defined by a deep, almost nostalgic connection to the Latvian landscape—a connection that was forged by distance.
I spent 12 years living in the UK. Being away for so long changed how I see the world. When I finally returned to Latvia, I didn't just see "scenery"; I saw home. I felt a need to capture the peace of the bog, the drama of the Baltic Sea, and the mood of Riga, holding onto those moments I had missed for so long.
Roots & Craft My obsession with the image began in childhood. My grandfather was a photographer, and I grew up watching magic happen in his darkroom. He taught me the fundamentals of film and the patience required to create, not just take, a photograph.
That foundation stayed with me when I bought my first camera in the UK. I am self-taught in the digital age, learning through trial, error, and an obsessive drive to master the medium.
The Process I believe the best shots are earned. You will often find me on my motorcycle, racing against the weather to catch a storm front or driving into the pitch-black morning to find the fog.
My editing process is fueled by the intensity of classic and heavy metal music. That energy translates into my work—I don't look for "pretty" pictures; I look for drama, atmosphere, and a powerful emotional impact.
